ICE Syndrome

These syndromes are characterized by a triad of Iris atrophy, Glaucoma, and Corneal decompensation.

 

Visual Acuity

Blurred Vision

Haloes around light

 

CONJUNCTIVA

Trabeculectomy Blebs +/- implant

 

CORNEA

Hammered Silver or Beaten Bronze appearance – Chandler syndrome.

Edema – due to sub-normal pump function by altered endothelial cells – may have micro-cysts in spite of having normal IOP.

 

IRIS AND PUPIL

Diffuse areas of Iris Atrophy

Correctopia

polycoria

Ectropion uvea

Peripheral Anterior Synechiae

Iris Nevus (Cogan-Reese Syndrome) – There is a diffuse nevus that coves the anterior iris. Iris pedunculated nodules may or may not be present, and the iris surface appears smudged.

Lenticular opacities

 

ANTERIOR CHAMBER AND ANGLE

Gonioscopy – Progressively angle closure in cases of essential iris atrophy
